TBF’s new project, Bandura on Bloor, will have its inaugural concert on March 21, featuring bandurists Teryn Kytasty-Kuzma and Yarko Antonevych at the Heliconian Hall in Toronto.
Teryn is a Ukrainian-American bandurist and an emerging artist from New York City who recently graduated from Bard College Conservatory of Music with a Master of Music in Vocal Arts. Teryn has a beautiful soprano voice and is an opera star in the making. She is also an accomplished bandura player and is heavily involved in teaching and promoting the bandura, an instrument that is deeply rooted in her family’s history on her mother’s side. She has recently been appointed the concertmaster of the Women’s Bandura Ensemble of North America and is a co-founder of the New York School of Bandur. Yarko is a long-time professional bandura performer based in Toronto. Most bandurists in Toronto know Yarko quite well, but ordinary folks might know him from playing bandura both on the subway and on the stage during the Bloor West Village Ukrainian Festival in September in Toronto. Over many years, Yarko has been a true Kobzar of Toronto. To find out a bit more about Yarko and his bandura story, you can check out some of these videos and features :
